The Charlottes are an archipelago some 140 kms (90 miles) long, comprised of about 150 islands, 100 km (60 miles) from the mainland. We're about 800 km (500 miles) north of Vancouver, just
south of the Alaska panhandle. |

Most of the 5,500 residents live on Graham and Moresby
Islands, in seven communities, Old Massett, Masset, Port Clements, Tlell,
Skidegate, Queen Charlotte, and Sandspit.
There's an excellent paved highway connecting the communities and hundreds of kilometers of good gravel back roads (4 x 4 not needed.) Forget the traffic - there's only one stop light on the islands! It's a marine climate, not too hot in the summer (about 70 degrees F, 21 degrees C usually), not cold in the winter - almost always above the freezing mark. Snow is rare! (Precipitation is about the same as Vancouver, 48 inches, 120 cm per year.) All visitor services are available on the islands - accommodation for all budgets, groceries, car rentals, fishing charters and gear, kayak charters, you name it! Just come on over, we'll look after you! |
