How We Get to the FishSandspit is at the center of the best sportfishing waters on the Queen Charlotte Islands, and is the home of Kingfisher Cove Lodge. This peaceful little seaside village is blessed with miles of sand & shingle beaches, and enjoys more sun and less rain than elsewhere on Haida Gwaii. Primo sportfishing oppurtunities are to be found a short distance away in any direction, either out on the saltchuk, or in freshwater lakes & rivers. Kingfisher Cove is located at the west end of Shingle Bay, just a stone's throw away from the Sandspit Marina. Chinook salmon can be found feeding in Shingle Bay throughout the year, while coho salmon return to spawn in the creek that runs through the Lodge property. Further afield are a myriad of exceptional angling scenarios that are reached by either by land, sea, or air.
A full size Ford crewcab 4X4 pickup truck serves as dependable transportation to and from most freshwater angling locations. Helicopter travel provides magnificent aerial views if fishing the mountain lakes is on the agenda. Sturdy aluminum skiffs with reliable Honda motors provide a stable platform for flyfishing the lakes or tidal estuaries. And for open ocean salmon fishing, our 'Kingfisher' is at the top of its class. A custom built 24 foot welded aluminum boat with a fully enclosed cabin and a large open deck, 'Kingfisher' rides quiet & comfortable, powered by a 212 HP Volvo Penta, with a 9.9 HP Yamaha auxillary motor. Our guests appreciate the smooth ride, and the very secure enjoyment of playing big salmon aboard this exceptionally stable craft.
