The Thunderbird Pole
The totem pole is twenty-eight feet tall. The top main figure is a Thunderbird,
which sits grasping the dorsal fin of a Killer Whale. Between the ears of
the Thunderbird is a Frog. The Whale holds a Seal in its mouth and this
middle figure sits on a Bear Mother with a Cub between her legs. The totem
pole is carved from Red cedar wood. The carving of this pole from raw log
to finished piece is shown at SpruceRoots
Magazine and gives a description of the figures. The pole stands in
Jakarta, Indonesia and was presented to the people and President as a gift
from Canada.
